Charlotte vacation food shots

After living in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2009-2011, it was about time I took Nick to see my American "family". And boy! As a chef, and all time lover of Diners Drive-ins and Dives was he looking forward to the food!

Here are a selection of some food highlights from our trip.  (We are dedicated to taking pictures and don't care how much it bores people to see!)

Bad Daddy's Burger Bar  9/10  best burger we had in CLT
1626 East Blvd Charlotte, NC 28203

Nick's Bacon Cheese Burger on Steroids with sweet potato fries

I think I did the Build Your Own burger with buttermilk chicken, bacon and crispy onion.
The Tater Tots were just as delicious as I'd remembered, as was the chipotle mayo!

Nick wants to go there on our first Sunday next year.  Yes, he is already planning our next trip!

Ready for more?? I am, just by reminding myself of that burger!!

The Diamond          The Diamond is one of my favourite places to eat. I give 9/10
1901 Commonwealth Avenue
Charlotte, N.C.

Oh Fried Pickles and Ranch.  It was SOOO good to see you again.

Nick got these Pig Wings.  They were deep fried pork shanks rubbed with cinnamon-chipotle seasoning.  I really am starting to melt remembering them.  Dear Lord above, they were good!!

This salad used to be what I craved all week.  They took it off the menu but made it again for me, as I requested it.  Beef Tip Salad with cheese and fries and plenty of ranch dressing.  I have a HUGE love of hot meat with a cold salad.  It really makes me happy.  And the fries?  Fries are good with ANYTHING, right?? I saved the leftovers for a picnic the next day at Freedom Park. (Below)

Great view and great leftover food.  Heaven!

1930 Camden Road,
Charlotte, N.C.

I'm not a huge fan of milkshakes and sundaes but Nick gives this 8/10

Pike's is known for it's milkshakes and were recommended this place by many friends.  Nick has a tradition of having a chocolate fudge sundae whenever he is on holiday so we had to come back for a second trip.  The milkshake was huge but super delicious.  Unfortunately, they don't have the milkshakes on their menu but we think we went for Oreo and Peanut butter.  Mmmmm

Sunny Point Café     This was highly recommended.  Good but not excellent - 6/10
262 Haywood Road,
Asheville, N.C
I have always wanted to try Huevos Rancheros.

It was good but a strange combination.  I would rather have it for brunch or lunch than breakfast.

Nick really wanted to try the traditional and Southern Biscuits and Gravy

It looked good but it a bit heavy for my liking.  Saying that, I am super hungry by now and could REALLY tuck in to that!!

Lastly, our star find!!

Ten Park Lanes (bowling alley)  I give it a 10/10 for flavour, appearance and cost.

We came here for Nick's birthday only to find one of the BEST meals we'd had all holiday.
They do these stacked Mason jars of food that we have talked about for weeks after our trip.

This was mine.  Mac n cheese, beef tips, green beans.  Perfection.

This was Nick's mac n cheese, pulled pork and coleslaw.

Overall, WE MISS CHARLOTTE!!! We CANNOT wait for our trip next year and plan to drive around a bit more.  It was an amazing trip especially with the food!
